week 3

schedule week 3 |
Time is running. Almost week 3
passed.
Week 3 started with a normal
class day. Intensity of learning contents increased during the last weeks
immediately. I’m still fighting my „blue brick challenge“ and get up every
morning at 5:15 to swim about a hour for a mile. I finished until end of week 3
almost 19 miles.
Normal day starts with breakfest
in board-room before we are participating our courses. The time schedule is
strict – each day lectures start at 7.45am and end at 5.00pm. After courses we are all
busy to do our paperworks, presentations, homeworks, sports-challenges and
external events. We are all living in time-frames. I have to manage my time and
to set priorities. Monday evening I used to get a hair cut. Shawn picked me up
by his car and took me to Marine PX barbershop. I asked for a smart cut, the
barber smiled and a couple of seconds later I looked like a Marine. I think
there exists only one hair-style – the Marine style. I paid 9 Dollar and felt a
little bit cold on my head ;-).
Later at dormitory I finished another paperwork and went at midnight to library
to print my assignments and made my laundry. By the way I met some other
colleagues at that time.
On Wednesday we passed the next
challenge „Not in Kansas anymore“. I like Wednesday – lessons started at 8:45.
So I don’t have to get up so early. Like every Wednesday we met at gym for warm
up with AC-DC basses. In attendance of yellow-brick road we passed a
station-intervall program. Therefore ession was splitted into three rotating sections.
First station: stairway running. We
had to run stairs in a parking deck up and down.
Second station: terra-resistance
band workouts on a parking deck
Third station: uphill running

At Lunch company 5.11 served
really good steaks. We used the time to talk
to each other. I held very interesting conversation to our students of Islamic
countries about culture, food, relationships, marriage-circumstances, family
matters.
After a short recovery time of
three hours with homework, swim-challenge we met at 5pm mainhall for transfer
to Washington D.C.
Another and very impressive event
impended – the official visit and remembrance at Law Enforcement Memorial. With
escort of several police-vehicles and police-motorbikes they carried us
straight to Washington D.C. downtown. It was impressive to pass the
Washington-Interstate traffic jam without reducing of speed. At the spot everything
was prepared by representatives of our session 259.
When we arrived we remembered the
fallen colleagues in the United States and all over the world. The Law
Enforcement Memorial is a real dignified place to remember. The names of all
fallen U.S. officers are engraved. The ceremony was impressive and emotional. A
lot of my study colleagues from U.S. mourned fallen fellows in their
departments. When they read the names and data of death many of my colleagues
cried. In 2014 about 126 U.S. officers lost their lives in the line of duty.
About 50 of them were shot by suspects. Nearly every 69 hours an US-officer
dies.

The following days we listened to a
lot of interesting guest-speaker in different type of topics. The FBI National
Academy regulary invites outstanding speakers. We got input regarding future
trends of analysis, handling difficult persons, interrogation, leadership,
postraumatic disorders, intervention-strategies in cases of alcohol-addiction,
victimology of violent crime, bizarre crime-scenes and aberrant behaviour.

My
personal highlight was the presentation "Leaders eat last" performed by Simon Sinek in the auditorium.

At Saturday we went once more to Washington D.C. to visit
the Holocaust Museum. We met a 8am and traveled by bus. I used time to talkt to
Ralph from California. We discussed about our departments, structures and
leadership. By the way he is a professional drawer of suspect portraits. The
visit of Holocaut-Museum was very impressive. At first we got input
presentation. After then we were guided by museum staff through the exhibition.
I felt a bit strange when I was confronted with the history of my nation. The
U.S. guys realized that and knocked on my shoulders. After exhibition tour we
discussed in auditorium about role of police in society.

We came back in the
afternoon. I used the time to clear my mind and went for running, swimming and
weight room.
Late evening we went for a beer the board room. It’s every time a pleasure to hear about different stories all over the world. Dick told us about his work and life in Hongkong, about birth regulations in China. Mon is a High-Tech-Cyberspecialist from Bangkok. She also told about her allday live and work. Susan is a supervisor from Indianapolis, Roberto told us about Brazilian Police, Antonina about Ucraine and Xavier about life and work at Gendarmerie National in Paris-Versailles. It’s still amazing to be part of this program. If we put lighters on a world-map – there were all over the world lights. Now we are sitting here together in the forests of Quantico.
On Sunday all signs were pointed to the Superbowl. I used the day-time to finish further paperworks to become a little more relaxt. In the afternoon I enjoyed Skype conversation with my family. Late afternoon we all met to watch the Superbowl-final in Atrium. The kitchen prepared a real party meal with chicken wings, ribs and all kind of tasty and unhealty stuff. Football is the most popular sports in the United States. Everybody speaks about, everbody watches American football.
